It’s no secret that Paris is the most romantic city on earth. From the breathtaking views to the decadent meals, there are just so many ways to take it in. As an English-speaking American engagement photographer in Paris, I love getting to document love stories with the city as a backdrop. If you have been considering booking engagement photos in Paris, I would love to share my list of my favorite locations for engagement photos. Hopefully it helps as you start to book your session!
Your Photographer’s Favorite Locations For Engagement Photos In Paris
Eiffel Tower
Av Gustave Eiffel, 75007
The Eiffel Tower is so popular it nearly feels like a cliche engagement photos spot in Paris. That doesn’t make the experience any less magical! With my clients, I give them several options for incorporating the tower into their sessions. We can go on the grounds in front of the tower, or we can head to a spot where the tower will be featured prominently in the background. My favorite spot for this is Trocadero, right across the Seine. At this spot, you will still be the star of the show, but the Eiffel Tower will be a lovely backdrop!
Notre Dame Cathedral
6 Parvis Notre-Dame – Pl. Jean-Paul II, 75004, Paris, France
Notre Dame Cathedral is an iconic church that has been crucial in the history of the city. While a fire destroyed much of the roof in 2019, the cathedral has since been restored, reopening in 2024. The hard work and dedication that went into the rebuilding is one of the many things I have come to love about this city! For my photo sessions, I have a number of key spots I use for my couples so we can capture the classic Gothic architecture in all its glory!
Latin Quarter
If you are looking for a classic Paris feel outside of the normal landmarks, I think you are going to fall head over heels in love with engagement photos in the Latin Quarter. This area is located on The Left Bank of the Seine River and is one of the oldest parts of the city. The neighborhood captures the authentic French experience. You can stroll down cobblestone streets, peer into the windows of nearby shops, and order a cafe au lait to enjoy at one of their many bistros.
The Louvre
75001 Paris, France
The interior of The Louvre can get extremely congested with people lining up for hours to view the legendary paintings. You don’t need a ticket, however, to enjoy the view! The exterior courtyard with the glass pyramid is one of the dreamiest spots around. As you share a kiss, you will have the famous museum standing prominently in the backdrop. It’s instantly recognizable while adding tons of rich texture to your session.
Pont des Arts
Between Institut de France and Palais du Louvre, 75006, Paris, France
Pont des Arts–the former Love Lock bridge–is a footbridge that takes you across the river from one part of the city to another. While the popular locks have since been removed, this still tends to be a favorite Paris spot for engagement photos, especially when the weather is nicer. If you choose to have pictures here, be prepared to deal with crowds. However, on rainy days, it’s the perfect spot to share a private kiss beneath an umbrella!
Ile St Louis
4th Arrondissement of Paris
While Ile St Louis is rather small, it still manages to give you tons of character for your photo session. The neighborhood is located on an island in the Seine, with several walkways taking you across to the heart of the area. This is the perfect location to take pictures with the historic Paris buildings standing as your backdrop! And while it has wonderful cafes and bakeries, it doesn’t tend to attract the same crowds as other spots in the city.
Tuileries Gardens
75001 Paris, France
Tuileries Gardens is located right in the heart of Paris, giving your engagement photos lush green space in the midst of the urban surroundings. The public park puts several landmarks right in the backdrop, including the main part of the Louvre. I adore how the historic architecture prominently shows through the trees and the flowers, adding an extra sense of grandeur! Because the walkways are paved with gravel, I always recommend my clients either bring an extra pair of shoes or a towel to wipe off the dust before their next location.
Place Dauphine
Saint-Germain-l’Auxerrois, Île de la Cité
Place Dauphine is a picturesque space that served as a major backdrop for a scene in Midnight in Paris. I love how much this space still looks like a movie set. Rose vines cover the exterior of the buildings, and cafe tables dot the exterior of the buildings. I personally adore giving my clients the authentic Paris experience with some coffee and a decadent croissant. It will look trés chic for your photo shoot!
Montmartre
18th Arrondissement of Paris, France
If you want the best views of Paris for your engagement photos, you really can’t do anything better than Montmartre. Nestled at the top of the hill, this area has been a favorite for residents, artists, and tourists. I am particularly a fan of Place du Tertre, a space that continues to inspire artists. The district features colorful outdoor cafes, cobblestone roads, and street lamps where you can share a kiss after the sun goes down. It is wonderfully Parisian!
Luxembourg Gardens
Rue de Médicis – Rue de Vaugirard – 75006 Paris, France
For couples who want to capture the vintage Paris feel but don’t necessarily want the standard backdrops, Luxembourg Gardens is one of my favorite spots. During the summer, it becomes particularly dreamy as flowers start to make their appearance. Whether you are looking for a spot to share a kiss or pop the question, the Medici Fountain is the ideal place!
Passerelle Debilly
Passerelle Debilly, 75007 Paris, France
Passerelle Debilly is a pedestrian-only bridge that takes you across the Seine. In my opinion, it gives you one of the best views of the Eiffel Tower. Originally built to accommodate visitors during the 1900 World Fair, it is still full of so much charm. Because cars are not allowed on the bridge, you don’t have to deal with the same level of congestion as you might at other walkways. Plus, it’s super easy to access!
