Plan Stunning Engagement Photos In Provence With These Incredible Spots
Lavender Fields
La Ferme aux Lavandes, Route du Mount Ventoux, 84390 France
If you are looking for the classic Provence engagement photos backdrop, the lavender fields are a must! The purple rows stretch on for as far as the eye can see, offering gorgeous views everywhere you turn. Because these are flowers, they have a fairly short bloom time that can change based on the weather of the previous year. If my clients are interested in booking a session here, I typically recommend they plan on a session in early July. I would also budget at least 4 hours for your pictures since it is an hour and a half just to get here. Trust me, though. These fields are well worth it!
Historic Arles
Arles, 13004 France
Historic Arles is France’s best-kept secret. This area was a former Roman town, and it still has countless Roman artifacts as a testament. It also served as a home to Vincent Van Gogh when he spent a year of his life painting here. As you wander through this town, you will quickly discover why it was such an inspiring place for the famed artist. There are lively cafes with outdoor seating, historic buildings with rich backstories, colorful houses with lush trees outside, and Roman architecture. You will constantly find brand-new Provence spots that will be perfect for your engagement photos!
Old Stone Bridge
There’s an old stone bridge in Arles I discovered for engagement photos shortly after I moved to the Provence area. The suspended path crosses the Rhone River, taking you from Arles to a little village called Fourques. I love incorporating the bridge into my photo sessions and have even gotten the chance to capture my client’s proposal on it! As you cross the river, you will walk beneath towering stone arches that bring you through a thicket of trees. It is going to serve as the perfect backdrop whether you’re walking along or getting down on one knee to pop the question!
La Roquette
La Roquette, 27700, France
Whenever I plan engagement photos in near Provence, I simply have to take my clients by La Roquette! This is a trendy neighborhood rooted in history. The area used to be a favorite for fishermen on the Rhone River. While they have since left, their stories still stand as you stroll down the streets and pass houses dating back to the 17th century. This area becomes particularly beautiful throughout the summer when the flowers come into bloom. The houses are bright and colorful, with fresh blossoms that add to the charm.
Olive Groves
Les Escavalins, 83210 Belgentier, France
Stopping by the Olive Groves is an absolute must throughout your stay! While we do have popular groves for tourists in Belgentier, you can find some throughout all of Provence for your engagement photos. They have been a favorite for my clients for everything from pre-planned elopements to spontaneous proposals. I love these areas because they give you tons of natural beauty without taking you too far from the villages. They are going to be a totally dreamy stop throughout your session!
Arles Amphitheater
1 Rdpt des Arenes, 13200 Arles, France
No spot in Arles ties in Roman history quite like the Arles Amphitheatre. This impressive structure continues to tower at the center of town. While it might no longer host the chariot races of yore, they do still hold a number of events each and every year. When we’re in the area, I try to work in a few pictures here with my clients. Not only is it a gorgeous backdrop, but it’s a neat part of history that continues to draw in tourists from across the globe.
Rhone River
The Rhone River runs through Provence, offering a scenic engagement photos as you stroll through the town. Whether you prefer nature-filled trails or want all of Arles as the backdrop, you are going to find just the thing near the banks of the river. There are certain points where the cathedral spires and the Amphitheatre peak through. While the area is lovely all year long, it reaches a new stage of magic throughout the summer when the wild poppies start to bloom. If you are here during this season, we will stop and get some pictures in the middle of the poppy fields.
Bridge of Lions
13200 Arles, France
Bridge of Lions is a crucial piece of Arles history that conveniently serves as a dreamy backdrop for your pictures. The bridge itself is no longer there. It was destroyed by the Allies during World War II. However, the lions still stand proudly on either side of the river. Around Arles, the lions are highly symbolic, and you can find their familiar shape throughout the village. As an Arles resident, I love getting to share this piece of history with my clients during our sessions!
Les Baux de Provence
Les Baux-de-Provence, 13520, France
If you want an olive grove without tons of tourists, I think you will adore Les Baux de Provence. This village is located on a rock in the midst of the Alpilles mountains and has been listed as one of the most beautiful villages in all of France. In addition to the groves, you can find the ruins of a chateau. There are also hiking trails that take you through the midst of nature. With a wealth of spectacular views, this will be the perfect spot to include during your photo session.
