The Ultimate Guide To Planning A Dream Honeymoon in Provence

There is really no better place on earth for your honeymoon than Provence, France. From the rolling lavender fields to the tiny villages, this is a space so romantic you will have to see it to believe it! If you have been considering planning your honeymoon in this area, I would love to give you a guide for ideas. As an English-speaking American wedding photographer in France, I adore working with couples to plan their overseas adventures. Here are some of the places you need to know about when planning your honeymoon in Provence

Where to Stay During Your Honeymoon In Provence

Villa Gallici

18 Avenue de la Violette, 13100 Aix-en-Provence

First off, where should you stay? I am personally always partial to Villa Gallici. This historic Provence hotel draws off Italian inspiration to ensure your honeymoon is nothing short of fabulous. You will be in the most popular part of Aix-en-Provence, putting you within walking distance of several wonderful stops. They also offer a heated outdoor swimming pool as well as a top-of-the-line spa.

La Bastide de Gordes

61 Rue de la Combe, 84220 Gordes, France

La Bastide de Gordes puts you in the heart of the romantic town of Gordes. Even if you don’t make this your hotel, you simply have to stop by this area! With lots of history and several jaw-dropping views, it will quickly become a space you will remember for years to come. The actual hotel offers a number of wonderful restaurants as well as several outdoor pools. The private gardens give you some of the best overlooks of the village, so you can enjoy a glass of wine with Provence at your feet.

Baumanière

13520 Les Baux-de-Provence

Baumanière is a bit of a foodie’s delight with decadent food you will remember for the rest of your life. With this hotel, you will be on a rocky spur in the midst of Les Baux de Provence, with views spanning for miles. The five-star hotel is surrounded by vineyards as well as the Alpilles regional park. Plus, the gourmet restaurant has received 3 Michelin Stars. Trust me, this is a once-in-a-lifetime hotel!

They have ten rooms with king-sized beds that overlook the gardens. You will also be within walking distance of a wooded park and terraces, as well as a heated outdoor hotel.

Where to Eat During Your Provence Honeymoon

Côté Cour

19 Cour Mirabeau, 13100 Aix-en-Provence

Next up comes my favorite question: where should I eat? We all know France is the food capital of the world, offering exceptional dishes from the best chefs in the world. At Côté Cour, you can enjoy amazing meals made by Top Chef contender, Ronan Kernan. The restaurant offers lunch only with your choice of a full meal or a starter and a main course.

Le Ramus

12 Place Ramus, 13100 Aix-en-Provence

Le Ramus gives you a chance to dig into traditional French meals with duck tagliata, veal liver, Argentinian rib steak, and knife-cut Charolais beef tartare. While you are there during your honeymoon, you simply have to try one of their homemade Provence desserts! From tarte tatin to creme brulee, your sweet tooth is going to be living its best life!

Le Bistrot de la Cave

Chemin des Imberts, 83780 Flayosc, France

Located in the renowned Château de Berne en Provence, Le Bistrot de la Cave is an elevated casual restaurant that serves lunch. The center has won the Michelin Bib Gourmand award for creating magnificent foods at moderate prices. They are constantly searching for new ideas that will leave you feeling positively inspired.

Pierre Reboul Restaurant Château de la Pioline

260 Rue Guillaume Du Vair, 13290 Aix-en-Provence

Pierre Reboul Restaurant Château de la Pioline is a French restaurant that has been Michelin-starred since 2003. Yes, trust me, it is that good! Chef Pierre Reboul is a visionary who has constantly been shaking up the culinary world since he got started. The food is delicious without ever feeling pretentious. The kitchen is immersive, so the experience will extend straight to your table!

L’opera

18 Rue Fermee, 13100 Aix-En-Provence France

L’Opera has a constantly changing menu that is always fresh and never forgettable. They change the dishes based on the season and the available ingredients. As you feast on some of the best food in all of Provence, you will be in a cozy restaurant setting with your choice of over 80 wines.

Things to Do During Your Romantic Honeymoon In Provence

Musée Granet

13100 Aix-en-Provence

While you are here on your honeymoon, you have to try out a Provence museum or two! The Musée Granet remains one of my favorites. The museum is on the forefront of modern art, taking you through both current artists as well as the pioneers of the movement. You can choose between self-guided or group tours. They do have English-speaking guides in case you need one.

Abbaye de Sénanque

84220 Gordes, France

Abbaye de Sénanque dates back to the 12th century and remains a vital part of the Gordes culture. As you tour the abbey, you are going to get a firsthand look at Romanesque Cistercian architecture. They have self-guided tour options with HistroPads for non-French speakers. There are lots of stairs throughout, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes!

Wineries

Various locations

If you are a big fan of wine, Provence has no shortage of options. There are a number of different wineries with vintages you will adore! You can travel to Château Vaudois and view their 93 hectares of vines, or you can spend an afternoon at Domaine Viticole Du Bourrian, one of the oldest wineries in the region. There’s also Château De Saint Martin, Domaine Terre De Mistral, Château De Chausse, and so many more. They even let you book a guided wine tour so you can make all the stops without worrying about the drive.

Provence Balloon Ride

4 Bis Rue Du Saussis, 21140 Semur-en-Auxois

The best views of Provence are the ones that take you off the ground. Provence Balloon Ride puts you in a hot air balloon so you can take in the entirety of the town. They also have various options, including a balloon ride for two followed by a one-night accommodation in a hotel or bed and breakfast. The rides are particularly magical when it’s lavender season!
