Wintertime is an ideal time to visit Paris, and a perfect time to propose marriage too! I’m always delighted, as a Paris surprise proposal photographer, to capture these very special moments for couples visiting Paris. Each surprise proposal and engagement photoshoot is huge honor to be a part of, and this winter surprise proposal was so gorgeous.
The Best Places for a Paris Surprise Proposal
As a specialist Paris surprise proposal photographer, I know all the very best places in Paris for a perfect surprise proposal! After working with so many happy couples, I have the expertise to know the very best places for surprise proposals in Paris.
As most people think of the Eiffel Tower when they think of a Paris surprise proposal, there are a few unique spots I think are just perfect. One of them is this one, right along the banks of the Seine River. Compared to other parts of Paris with Eiffel Tower views, it’s fairly serene and while there is a lot of tourist boat traffic, and on sunny, warm days you will have picnickers on the river bank, most of the time there aren’t a ton of people around. That’s why this location is so ideal for couples who would love a little more privacy.
Common Paris Surprise Proposal Questions
Jordan contacted me to plan his surprise proposal to Sydney. They’d been together quite some time, but now it was time to move to the next level of their relationship, and Jordan couldn’t wait to ask Sydney to marry him! We planned exactly how it was going to work, super simple, stress free!
That said, that’s fine for me to say, I realize, I’m not doing the proposing! I realize the proposer goes through a great deal of turmoil during this process. Questions come up such as:
What if I lose the ring?
What if my partner knows and the secret proposal is ruined?
What if I’m late to the meeting spot?
What if it rains?
These are all normal questions and fears. You won’t lose the ring! Your partner suspects you may propose, but that’s only because you’re in Paris! Getting to the meeting spot is a bit more challenging, but there’s always something to see and do in Paris, so getting to a museum or monument to get tickets, or even a restaurant, isn’t too difficult to do. If it rains, you use an umbrella! Super romantic, and memorable too! Your partner doesn’t care about all of that, they just are thrilled you asked in Paris!
The Big Moment
John and Sydney approached, and then I stepped back into place. Sydney, of course, had no idea who I was. Just another tourist, taking pictures of the Eiffel Tower. The first thing, of course, well two things, I noticed about Sydney were her hair (clearly) and her coat. I’m sure people comment on Sydney’s hair all day long, but as someone who at one time had trouble growing my hair longer, her hair is to die for and really makes a statement!
Then, her coat. Super chic for winter in Paris, couldn’t have picked a better coat (although she had no idea). I wish I could wear a coat like this, but in two minutes flat I’d spill something on it, I’m terribly messy with food and drink.
Jordan got on one knee and Sydney was surprised. When a guy gets on one knee, he never really knows how his partner will react. But I can tell you from much experience, it’s mostly shock. She can’t believe it. Her hands may be shaking. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been together six months or 30 years (I did have a couple who got engaged after 30 years together). Her hands will shake, she’ll probably shed some tears, she’ll be in a state of shock for about an hour, and guys–get ready for a lot of hugs and kisses.
Now, for the proposer–your work is done! You’ve asked your partner, and now the heat is off of you, no more worries or anxiety, and the celebration can begin! This is where I come in! I’m the First Stop on the Paris Celebration Train!
First, I’ll introduce myself and ask the first female your partner sees, I also get a lot of hugs, which is so nice. In this case, Sydney was just a doll and hugged me, making me feel special and like a member of the family. I learned she’s an NICU nurse, which is also a field I’ve worked in for many years on the product and manufacturing side. Having this in common was so fun!
Jordan was so wonderful to work with, smart and organized and polite and so happy. We created some beautiful photos in the immediate area, and then went for a little walk, where we caught the sunset. This couple was such a joy, it really is so very hard for me to say goodbye. It’s like for that moment, I made two new friends, and not only did I make new friends, but these friends are so happy!
Nothing in this world makes me happier than seeing the happiness of others. This world isn’t easy. To have someone to love, to count on, to laugh with, to have fun–it’s everything. When I see two people come together, ready to embark on the next phase of their love story, it warms my heart (even when it’s cold). This means so much to me!
Congratulations to Jordan and Sydney! May all your dreams come true!
