Photographing lovely couples on the French Riviera is a dream come true. Nice, France is a big city with a small town heart. There’s so much charm in Nice, and I love to walk the narrow streets of the old town and take in the bold, beautiful blue hues of the Mediterranean Sea as I walk the Promenade des Anglais. I love photographing couples here and that’s why I was so excited when I was contacted for a Nice, France photoshoot, for a honeymooning couple.
Vacationing in Nice, France in August
My couple had married in May in the United States, but now, in August, were celebrating their wedding with a honeymoon in the south of France. They’d be spending a bit of time in Nice and traveling along the French Riviera, and would explore all that the area had to offer.
August in Nice, France is high tourist season. It’s a wonderful time to visit, but you can expect big crowds and hot weather. The heat doesn’t really show up on the thermometer, as the temperatures will be in the 80sF, but the humidity is high, and that leads to perspiration. This can be avoided by starting a Nice photoshoot in the early morning hours, and that’s exactly what we did. In the morning, starting at sunrise or just after, not only do you avoid the heat that comes later in the morning, but there are fewer people out and about, which makes the whole experience a bit more pleasant.
Honeymoon Photoshoot in Nice, France
I met Daniel and Woojung, who hail from Chicago, Illinois, in Old Town. It’s a central place to meet and easy to get to. In summer, I often start my Nice photoshoots at the beach, to avoid the bright sun and the throngs of people who lay on the beach, even early in the morning. Most couples enjoy at least a few photos with the water, and I think it’s a great idea, as Nice is famous for its blue water, but not its sandy beaches.
Why? Nice doesn’t have sand beaches, in fact much of the French Riviera doesn’t have sand beaches, but stone beaches. While large stones aren’t always the easiest to walk on, the stones are a lot cleaner than sand. We had fun at the seaside, capturing their beautiful love story. I love to incorporate movement, so during my Nice photo sessions, we do a lot of walking, a bit of dancing, and a lot of chatting. I love to chat with my clients and learn more about them and what they love to do together.
Honeymoons are so very special, it’s the start of a new chapter in a couple’s relationship, and a chance to slow down a bit after the wedding, and enjoy the early days of marriage.
We spent a bit of time along the sea before we headed into the Old Town for some romantic and colorful photos.
Old Town Nice is Perfect for Honeymoons
Charming Old Town Nice (Vieux Nice) is a paradise for honeymooners. Strolling hand in hand down the little streets, grabbing a coffee or snack, picking up a honeymoon souvenir, or just soaking up the ambience are favorite activities of couples on their honeymoon.
For my part, I love showing my couples some of the cutest little spots in the Old Town. Daniel and Woojung were so lovely, kind, funny, and up for anything, it was such a pleasure to spend part of the morning with them. So in love, their photos oozed romance, and set against the pretty pink pastel buildings too. So gorgeous!
Together they strolled and danced, laughed and kissed, and I was there to capture all of these beautiful moments. At the end of our session together, we were all thirsty and it was time for Daniel and Woojung to take a rest. We looked for a cute cafe that was open, but not a lot was open on a Sunday morning. We walked back toward the beach and found that the popular restaurant Sunset was open. The honeymooners took a seat on the deck terrace and toasted the end of their honeymoon photoshoot in style. It was sad to say goodbye, I loved this couple so much, but I knew they’d be having the most wonderful vacation and couldn’t wait to share their photos with them.
