One of the greatest advantages of eloping is the freedom to design a day that feels entirely relaxed, personal, and unhurried. A day that’s super special and has meaning to you both.
Your schedule can center around what truly matters: exchanging meaningful vows, savoring world-class food, and capturing timeless portraits in extraordinary locations. As a professional French Riviera elopement photographer, this is exactly what I help with.
Planning a timeline on the French Riviera requires accounting for specific local factors—such as intense Mediterranean midday sun, summer traffic along the coastal corniche roads, and seasonal tourist crowds.
I’m happy to share a bit about how to structure your day seamlessly, along with three tested sample itineraries.

3 Key Rules for French Riviera Timelines
1. Work Around the Mediterranean Light
The mid-afternoon sun along the coast can be harsh and bright, creating strong shadows and high heat during summer months. Schedule your vow exchange and main portrait sessions during sunrise (for total privacy and soft morning glow) or during late afternoon golden hour through dusk. Despite the fact I’m not at all a morning person, I really love the morning for its calm, beautiful light, and cool temperatures. Plus there aren’t as many people out and about which makes everything just a bit more intimate.
2. Build in Buffer Time for Transit
The coastal roads connecting Nice, Éze, Cap d’Antibes, and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat are exceptionally scenic, but traffic can slow down significantly during peak travel months (June through August). Always add a 20 to 30-minute buffer between locations.
3. Plan for Comfortable Footwear
Many of the Riviera’s best spots—from the winding stone alleys of Éze to the rocky paths along Cap d’Antibes—require a bit of walking. Pack a stylish pair of flats or sneakers for moving between locations, and switch into your ceremony shoes once set. A straw handbag is a lovely way to carry your belongings, and don’t forget to toss in a pair of sunglasses, too!

How to Choose Your Timeline Length
- Count Your Locations: If you want both a historic village (like Éze) AND a coastal cliff (like Cap d’Antibes), choose at least 8 hours of coverage to avoid feeling rushed.
- Prioritize Your Experience: If renting a private boat or hosting a multi-course private chef dinner is part of your vision, a 10-hour timeline ensures those moments are fully documented.
- Keep It Stress-Free: Remember that your elopement should feel like an effortless date day. When in doubt, add time buffers between events!
