Tairra & DJ | Dancing into the future in Nice, France
When Tairra booked her Nice, France couples photo session with me, she and I discussed some of the things she and her partner, DJ enjoyed. She told me they were dancers, and enjoyed West Coast Dance. Tairra said she’d love to incorporate some dancing into their session, and this sounded great to me, movement is so fun!
The pair planned to be visiting Nice, France, on a lovely French Riviera vacation. Nice, France is the fifth largest city in France, and considered the capital of the French Riviera (or, Cote d’Azur in French). It is a spectacular city to visit for so many reasons.
First, it is super pretty. Obviously, the Mediterranean sea is at your doorstep, with its beautiful shades of blue. In Nice, you’re never far from the sea. There’s also a very well preserved Old Town (Vieux Nice), with colorful buildings that makes you feel like you’re somewhere in Italy. The famous Promenade des Anglais is a waterfront promenade that runs for over four miles, and is a fantastic place to take a walk or sit on a bench and relax. In addition to the natural sites, there’s also great shopping to be had in Nice, and so many wonderful restaurants. Whether you love seafood, French, Italian–you’ll find it all in Nice.
Nice also hosts carnaval in the month of February, and it’s simply fantastic. There’s so many festivals throughout the year to enjoy, you can never get bored here. If you do, simply hop on the train and head to beautiful places like Menton, Monaco, Roquebrune Cap Martin, Antibes, Cannes, Villefranche-sur-Mer (so many to choose from!). Each town on the French Riviera has its own flavor and own beauty. I highly recommend a visit to Nice, and its surrounding areas for a laid back and fun vacation!
Tairra explained to me that they were looking for some really beautiful photographs together, as she’d seen on my Instagram and web site. What she didn’t know is that DJ planned during the photo session to propose. It’s a really great way to slip in a marriage proposal, and a beautiful place to do it!
We began our morning roaming around the colorful streets of Old Town. Filled with pink and burnt orange buildings, and narrow streets, it truly feels like being transported to a different time. There are so many cute little spots, and I mix up each session I photograph so couples have something unique to them (as well as some of my favorites)!
From there, we stopped in a cafe so Tairra could change into a white dress. She’d selected a beautiful rose colored dress for Old Town, and DJ was super handsome in his blue suit. For his part, he removed his vest and went slightly more casual, but very sharp, for the second portion of our morning.
After a quick tea, we headed to Castle Hill, or the Colline du Chateau. This hill has a spectacular view over Nice and the marina. We went to my favorite spot, and I suggested to DJ that this would be the perfect spot for his proposal. Once there, he sprung into action and really surprised Tairra! She had no idea it was coming, and her raw, real and beautiful emotions touched me.
The photo session had been so much fun before this time, but now, newly engaged, it was even more fun! We ended our time together with some beautiful photos by the water. As the Nice beaches are large stones called galets, and not sand, they can be challenging to walk on, but a few images here are always lovely.
I really did not want to say goodbye to this couple. The weather was gorgeous, the mood was happy and peaceful–one last thing before we finished was a super cute dance pose, that put the cherry on top of this beautiful Nice romantic couples photo session!
I wish Tairra and DJ so much happiness and thank them both for choosing me to capture this special time in their lives in Nice, France!
