I was so excited to photograph this surprise proposal in Paris! I was contacted by a wonderful man who wanted to propose to the love of his life. There’s nothing more fun than being a part of an engagement photoshoot in Paris, and his choice of a surprise proposal location was perfect, absolutely beautiful!
Pont Alexandre III Bridge in Paris is a Perfect Proposal Location
There’s a famous bridge in Paris that’s so ornate, you can’t believe how beautiful it is. Paris is a city of bridges, so it’s hard to pick just one, but for me, there’s no contest. From the first moment I saw the bridge of Alexandre (Pont Alexandre), as a student visiting Paris for the first time, I was “wowed”. The ornate statues, the touches of gold color–it just seemed so grand.
For those interested in history, you can read all about it here.
Since 1975, this bridge has been considered a monument in the city of Paris. The style in which it was built is referred to as “Beaux Arts”, and if you look closely, you’ll see cherubs. The bridge was built in time for the 1900 World’s Fair and is named after a Russian czar, Alexandre the Third, who was part of a France-Russian alliance int he late 1800s.
These days, the bridge is crossed daily by thousands of residents and tourists, because its location is so central to great things to see and do in Paris, and also has a view of the Eiffel Tower, is a very popular spot to stop and take a photo.
The bridge has also been featured extensively in television and film, most recently in season 1 of the hit Netflix show, Emily in Paris, and going back some years, in the Woody Allen film, Midnight in Paris.
It’s a popular spot also for a gorgeous surprise proposal in Paris! First off, it’s centrally located, so normally you’re walking across the bridge anyway to get where you’re going. Your partner, therefore, doesn’t suspect anything different. It has a gorgeous distant view of the Eiffel Tower, so you can still see it, but the real draw is the ornateness of the bridge itself.
Andrew had contacted me about a surprise proposal in Paris. As a Paris surprise proposal photographer, it’s my joy to offer advice to clients who wish to propose marriage in Paris, and also capture their special moment in magnificent imagery they’ll treasure forever.
There is only one problem with the Pont Alexandre, because it’s so popular there are people on it constantly, often stopping to take photos and therefore, it’s quite busy. This is just life in Paris, though, and if you’re patient, you can also get your good spot!
A Beautiful September Day
On this beautiful day in early September, Andrew and Meghan were taking a walk to dinner. All dressed up, of course, as they were going to dine in Paris, a treat unto itself. They casually stopped to take a photo on the bridge, after all, why not? It’s a beautiful view!
Then, Andrew turned to Meghan, said his beautiful words, and got on one knee. Meghan was so surprised and touched! It was a beautiful moment to witness! This is what makes my job as a Paris engagement photographer so touching, the ability to capture these once-in-a-lifetime moments for couples to cherish forever!
After the big moment was captured, we captured some post-proposal images and then the next day had a gorgeous engagement photo session at the Louvre! An engagement session the next day is the perfect way to cap off a Paris surprise proposal, and many couples use their images from the engagement session for their wedding Save the Date cards.
Congratulations to Andrew and Meghan, and thank you for choosing me to capture this happy day! If you’re thinking of proposing to the one you love in Paris, or elsewhere in France, don’t hesitate to contact me. I’d be happy to help you too!
